She paints what she sees, always striving to recreate a particular mood or moment. Often viewers come away feeling they know something about the subject of the picture beyond the obvious. Working to reflect a knowledge of structure and to communicate an understanding of form and habit, she gives her viewer a little pinch of time, whether it be figures, portraits, wildlife or landscape. Whatever the medium - pastel or oil - the rendering creates a feeling for the moment that may be peaceful and private for the viewer. Penny has studied art at the Universities of Nevada and Arizona. However, she feels that observing animals in their habitat is the greatest training of all. By teaching numerous classes and workshops, the artist shares her love of art with children and adults alike as an instructor and mentor. In professional competition, she has been accepted into prestigious juried wildlife art shows such as Easton Maryland Waterfowl Show and High Plains Audobon Wildlife Art. She was one of six women wildlife artists to have her work represented in the Top Forty Paintings, the Wyoming Conservation Stamp Competition. This exhibition toured the State of Wyoming for a year. Penny has lived and worked on National Wildlife Refuges in five states. Sharing her husband's life as a professional wildlifer enabled her to see and experience wildlife as few are fortunate enough to do.
