Artist's Statement:
I’m fascinated with the quality of light in the landscape. A simple poppy backlit by the sun looks like a jewel in a garden. The misty light in Europe turns old buildings and fields into timeless visions. The Impressionists captured this quality of light and no subject was too mundane. The Southwest light with its’ cerulean skies and crayola sunsets is a delight to the artist's eye. Anyone who has not visited the Southwest cannot believe that Georgia O’Keefe was actually painting what she saw.

Over the years I’ve enjoyed painting while on location and believe you don't really experience a place or subject until you’ve rendered it. In my paintings I hope to convey or remind the viewer of what it is like to enjoy these special places and times. When I work in my studio from reference photos taken on trips I try to recapture the “moments”. I hope to share the impressions and feelings I enjoyed in these locations with my viewers. If you’ve traveled to the locations I hope that my recollections bring back fond memories. If you haven’t visited the area my goal is to share some of the joy I felt. I believe that art is a personal experience and we, as artists, are successful when we strike a chord with our audience.

I work in oil, pastel and watercolor. Since so much of my painting is en plein air I enjoy the a la prima method. I work exclusively with archival materials. Watercolors are painted on Fabriano and Arches paper with Winsor Newton paint. I use hard and soft pastels are on surfaces I prepare myself. I am primarily a landscape painter in an impressionistic style.

I began my art studies at UCLA and have continued with classes and workshops with Ramon Kelly, Doug Dawson, Tony Ortega, Hermann Margulies, Jane Schoenfeld and Joyce Pike plus numerous classes at the Art Student's League.
