The subjects of my pastel landscapes are mostly from Colorado and the southwest. I use a style that is primarily representational to communicate what I see and love in nature. Nothing is more inspiring to me than experiencing first hand the beauty of form, color, and light in the natural world. I travel around Colorado and beyond, always searching for those “sweet spots”, the ones that move me to stop and let that place speak to me. This thrill of discovery is what inspires me to paint. These are the places where I can lose myself and where I feel most at home in the world.
In a plein air session I work to capture as much information as I can before conditions change. The painting may be complete at that point, or I may finish it later in the studio. My goal is to draw my viewers into the work, bringing them to their own place of discovery. There they can pause and lose themselves in wonder of the beauty of a specific place and time.
I am a signature member of the Pastel Society of Colorado. My work has been shown and won awards in regional and national exhibitions.
