Pat Kuper started painting in 1996 as mainly a self-taught artist. She works in pastel, colored pencil and oil.
Pat's passion is painting Native Americans, old Western buildings and wagons, as well as wildlife and landscapes. As a professional artist, she began, and continues to do, commissions of people's pets.
In spring of 2010 Pat won first place in the Wyoming Governor's Show and the Governor's Award for the second year in a row. Her painting "Yellowstone Big Horn Sheep" hung in the governor's office for one year. "Grizzly Bear" won People's Choice at a juried show in Red Lodge, Montana. In June of 2010 Pat won first place in the pastel section of the Cody Country Art League Show with "Chocolate Lab."
In July 2010 Pat also won the Best of Wildlife Award in the Pastel Society of the Northern Rockies Show held in Brown's Gallery in Boise, Idaho. She was also selected as one of 30 artists from 5 states to be included in a juried live auction "Art in the Beartooths," in Red Lodge, Montana.
She won Best of Show in 1999 in the Salmon River Art Show with a pastel Painting of Grey Owl Woman of the Blackfeerunning-beart Tribe. Her next Best of Show award was for the pastel painting of Red Elk, a Lakota Sioux warrior, at the Cody Country Art League's annual art show, Cody, Wyoming. Pat's colored pencil painting Wood Ducks won second place at the same show.
Pat is currently represented in Cody, Wyoming at the Cody Country Art League and the Carbon County Arts Guild in Red Lodge, Montana. She was one of fifty juried into the Mini Section of the 2011 Paint America show as well as one larger painting into the Final one hundred. In 2015-2016 she also had one in the final Mini Section and one in the larger final one hundred of Paint the Parks. Both shows traveled the US for one year out of the Coutt's Museum in El Dorado, Kansas.
She is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, is an associate member of Women's Artists of the West, an associate member of Oil Painters of America, and belongs to the Cody Country Art League, as well as the Carbon County Art League.
