Steven Hill

Steven R Hill is an award winning plein-air landscape painter who resides in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. His work can be viewed at:

He is a signature member and past president of The Northwest Pastel Society, and a signature member of The Puget Sound Group of Northwest Artists. He is also a member of: American Society of Marine Artists, Plein Air Painters of Washington, Laguna Plein Air Painters, Pastel Society of Colorado, American Impressionists Society, and Lopez Island Artists Guild.

His work has been published in nine fine art books and many national art magazines. He has taught over 60 workshops around the U.S. and in Europe, since 2006.

Recent honors include: The Florence Biennale, Fortezza da Basso, Florence, Italy 2011, one of eleven artists invited from the U.S., The 24th Annual Chelsea International Juried Fine Arts Competition, Agora Gallery, NYC, 2009, one of 30 artists from hundreds worldwide, selected by Ira Goldberg, Executive Director of The Art Students League of New York.

His work has won 42 top awards in national and international juried fine art competitions and plein air painting events, over the past 11 years.

He holds a BA in Fine Art from Boise State University (1970), an MFA in painting from Washington State University(1974) and was an illustrator in the U.S. Army, Ft, Hood, TX (1972-74).
His most recent major awards include: "Best Overall Pastel" Plein Air Magazine October/November 2015, Annual Juried Salon Competition and inclusion in Strokes of Genius 8, Expressive Texture, 2016 book competition by North Light Books and "Strokes of genius 9" with all 3 images selected in the winners circle, to be published October 2017, by North Light books, Rachel Rubin Wolfe, editor.

He was juror for the 43rd Annual Associated Artists of Ocean Shores National Fine Art Competition in 2012 and is frequently invited to give live pastel painting demos and lectures by art associations across America.
