Honey Lea Gaydos
"Tell all the Truth, but tell it slant..." E. Dickinson
Drawing on her experiences as a traditional pastel artist, clinician, and academic, Honey Lea Gaydos subscribes to Emily Dickinson's advice and paints intimate, emotionally evocative images of nature, figures, or objects that are representative but not literal. Her life journey has taken twin paths through the fields of nursing science and art. These two paths seemed forever divided until she developed a painting/interview process for telling the story of a person's life in a Life Journey Portrait(c) while taking graduate studies in art and also working as a clinical nurse specialist in mental health nursing.
Her doctoral studies combining Jungian psychology, mythology, symbology and art history lead her to develop an "art-as-nursing research" process that she used as an Associate Professor of Nursing at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS) from which she recently retired. Honey Lea's art work has been in many group and solo shows in galleries and other venues and in professional nursing publications. It has been recognized by awards from both arts and nursing organizations.
