Her change of focus from lettering to painting came about during her years teaching art when she became increasingly attracted to drawing and painting.

Sandy is primarily a representational painter with a strong abstract tendency. She works in soft pastel with a dash of other media mixed in. Her inspiration comes from the natural world as well as the world of things. She is particularly attracted to intriguing shapes, lyrical line, interesting juxtapositions and color relationships.

"Survivor" by Doug Graybeal
“Survivor” by Doug Graybeal

Graduating with a degree in Architecture during a slow economy Doug moved to Colorado to ski and never left. He was a principal in an award winning and nationally recognized architectural firm for 25 years before starting his own distinguished practice focused on sustainable design. After practicing the “hard line art” of architecture for forty years Doug decided to more deeply explore the softer “more free flowing” art of watercolors with the vibrancy of pastels. He has drawn throughout his career and taken workshops from Colorado and nationally recognized artists. Doug continues to expand his artistic skills combining pastels with watercolors and participating in Plein Air events throughout Colorado. He is a signature member of the Pastel Society of Colorado.
